Getting ready for my roadtrip to Dallas on Wednesday and brought home the borrowed auto transport. Of course the wife wants to know when I am getting the "big ugly trailer" out of her driveway. Anyway, I test-fitted the car on the trailer, got her balanced and centered (I winched it up, it's a tilt trailer) and started to look for good ways to tie her down. This trailer has no chocks for the front wheels. What I found after looking at the frame of my car were a number of factory-drilled (or stamped) holes in the frame. I found some industrial-grade forged shoulder eye bolts that fit perfectly inside these holes, one in the middle of the frame on each side and one each in the back behind the rear tires. I shackled heavy chain to the back eye bolts and shackled two chains to each side bolt, one fore and one aft and tied this to the four tie-downs on the sides of the trailer. The front is held in with very large strap tie-downs. This baby ain't goin nowhere! I can adjust the tension on the chain with the winch or the tie-down rackets.
Oh, and as far as chocks or wheels blocks, I found a set at Auto Zone and thought about bolting these to the trailer to stop the front wheels. I used one to prevent the empty trailer from rolling in the driveway. I hooked the trailer up to move it (big ugly trailer in her driveway comment) and felt a very slight bump. The chock, instead of chocking, became a flattened piece of cheap yellow steel. You get what you pay for. I threw the other one away.
