TRAILERS.

That ranger should pull her well Jack. My camper, when fully loaded weighs just a bit over a ton and I can pull it ok with my 1994 ranger 2.3L supercab. A spridget on a trailer should not catch anywhere near the wind my camper does. Her is a pic of my rig when we were way the heck out past Socorro NM where the VLA dishes are. A long ways (over 2000 miles) from Asheville.

Doesn't that big dish on the back of your truck affect your gas mileage???!!!

Stuart,
What's your concern with the 4runner? That should do the job quite nicely.
It has an overdrive doesn't it?

It's not so much me Barry,as it is my wife's concern. With her being an attorney and reading the owner's handbook about maximum loading, she got her knickers in a knot, and I'm having atime of it trying to convince her.Oh,the 4RUNNER has an overdrive, which will be off whilst towing.(better MPG,supposedly.).

Stuart.

My Ranger is a 4 cyl standard sigh. Not up to towing a ton I think.

The real reason for the OD off isn't gas mileage (IMO), but to lock the trans out of overdrive to avoid excessive downshifting and to keep it cooler. Heat is the #1 killer in auto transmissions.

Oh, man, does that take me back.

I worked on the VLA from about 74 to 78, when it was under construction. My first son was born when we lived there (75)--some moron dug up the telephone cables one day, so I stalked out and said I wouldn't be back until either the telephones were working or the kid was born. Wife went into labor next morning, and kid was born in Albuquerque that evening. Just one of many stories.
