TRAILERS.

I pull my race car on a trailer I bought new from ~Econotrailer~ in PA.

I'm very happy with it and it would be hard for me to build one myself for what they cost

The price for these is $1600 with two wheel brakes. Mine was $100 more (two years ago) because I got 4-wheel brakes.
This is a true car trailer with dual axles, LED lights, wheel brakes and a proper 2-5/8" ball coupler.
I do see folks using simpler trailers, but dual axles and brakes are *required* if you're going to carry a car in most of the states in my area and I'm pretty sure that's true in most parts of the US.

My tow vehicle is a 3.9L Ford Freestar minivan. Works great and gets 17 to 20 mpg towing. I've towed all over the eastern US with this combo and am very happy with it. I run the trans in "3rd" (non-overdrive) and rarely tow faster than 65 mph. Some of my pals have the big, enclosed trailers. These things are neat, but they really require a much bigger tow vehicle (and my mini-van is a better "all purpose" vehicle than a V-10 Dually).

You can flat tow pretty far if you pull the driveshaft, but the trailer is a better idea if you intend to tow on a regular basis.
I looked at Tow-Dollies, but they're almost as expensive as my trailer.

I took an MGB down to the trailer factory & had them build one to fit it! Its shorter & narrower than the full size trailers...full metal floor (diamond tuff)...dovetail & has 5' ramps that mount on the front sides when not in use to act a protection for car from road debris, small electric winch with deep cell bettery that's automatically charged when hooked to my truck, & electric brakes at all 4-wheels.

Stuart...I actually bought one of those landscaping trailers with a full wood floor.....only 13" wheels but double axle to handle the weight with a rear loading gate that lifts up flat on the back....I use it for a lot of projects but it also doubles as a great trailer for my SPrite. They are reasonably priced as well...just make sure on the bumber to bumber length for length to purchase.

Similar to this model...But as Tony states if you buy from a welding shop that makes them they will usually make minor modifications for you if required. I'm also planning on putting an electric winch on the front..

I use a tow dolly, circa 1970, to haul mine. The ramp width is adjustable and pulls nicely. Found it on Craigslist for $125.

I have an enclosed car hauler; Pace 8x16. It's overkill for many applications, but nice to have when you need it. You MUST be willing to provide a substantial tow vehicle if you opt for a trailer like this; I'm using a full sized Nissan Titan with the "Big Tow" package.

Nah...I had to choose between the the wet bar and jacuzzi with complimentary bikini clad model...or the MG!

Funny, SWMBO told me years ago, "if you're ever thinking about a bikini clad model, get a sports car - no questions asked" :driving:

Jack, you almost have more trailer than car there!! That trailer tire looks HUGE next to Miss Agatha!

Yep, they are Ford 150 truck size. 1600 lbs rated each, only need two that way. Wheel and tire $40 at most junk yards.

Boy does it tow well, you would never know it is there at 70 on the interstate.

But when you happen to glance in the rear view miror there is some darn Bugeye right on your bumper trying to pass.

"Beep beep, beep beep, his horn went beep, beep, beep!"

hey Jack the 50th in Ozarks is still 2 months away...

I have almost decided to go for a 16' utility trailer,as it might prove more useful than a car hauler.
I'm just not sure if our 2000 4RUNNER can do the job all the way to the Lake.

Stuart.

DARN!! Now I've gotta take my trailer to the body shop for a full restoration!!
