Trailer Pic

Jack, you should get a little electric 2500 Warne winch off an ATV & mount it on your trailer.

Now there is an idea. Will look around.

You could always use your truck battery to power it...just think about the setup I have on my trailer...its a Warne 2500 off a 4-wheeler with a snatch block doubling it to 5000....you won't need the snatch block for Miss A.

Think I will also look at the boat trailer places as well like US Boat.

Most boat trailers don't have electric winches....go by TSC, that's where I got mine.....

& if you don't want a battery on your trailer, you could hook up some type wiring to your truck battery...on my trailer, my truck's alternator charges the marine deep cell battery on my trailer through a wiring harness we built.

Jack,
I have a small Ramsey in my enclosed trailer...any of the good winches will do the job. I'm with Tony on using the lighter ATV types...I think mine is rated at like 1800 LBs. If you get one with a remote, you can stand at the side of the car and steer as you are loading...too easy!

One thing I would suggest if you do this is to replace the stranded steel cable that comes with the winch with the braided synthetic type. Not only is it easier to handle, but if it touches the car, it is much easier on the paint. Here's a link to the kind sold by Ramsey:

Oh, one other thought, whether using a manual or power winch, always use good tie downs in the front as well as the rear. Don't depend on the winch cable as a hold fast.

PS - though tempting, avoid the $69 "portable" electric winches at Walmart and the parts stores for regular use. I have one in the garage for moving cars around...slow, loud, not what you want.

Whoo, winch would be more than the trailer, heh.

jack...go for it....it may start a whole new class..

"BEST IN TRAILER"...

It was a used one that was pointed out to me on I think Craiglist.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif Trailer is now complete except for Baby Moon hubcaps. Gave all another coat of paint along with the wheels inclucing spare. Also a bit of sanding and the 5th coat of Polyurathane, smooth as a babys you know what.

Now, I get to use it a bit and see what mods I need, heh.

Boy am I glad that is finished, hot out there. Too hot in fact. We could use a tropical storm to cool things down here in the SE.

Where'd you hang the spare?

Heck you need a fork lift to move that tire. It will reside in the Pickup.

I like the idea of a canvas cover for the center while travelling to keep out rocks, road tar, stripe paint and other grime. Would snaps be secure enough?

I think lift a dot snaps would be. That's what I am going to try.

You'd want some metal cross stays from ramp to ramp on the top of the canvas cover so it doesn't flap up onto the undersides of Miss A.
