Tragic tug-of-war

Yikes! Horrible news.

Ow!! Poorly suprevised event by the sound of it!! NEVER allow rope to be coiled about an extremity!!!! It works like a saw!!!

That is horrible and could end the potential careers of these students. It'll probably be banned from now on.

Seems as if banning this event would be a good idea.
I am sure there are plenty of other alternatives
that could be considered to celebrate home coming.

I am truly very, very sorry for the boys and their
families.

two wrench, tragic to be sure, yup ban everything! dodgeball that's gone the way of the dinosaur, baseball? heck ya got ah bunch ah kids swinging heavy sticks around and high speed balls whizzing about, wrestling?, yup seems much too violent, football? why do we need it when we have coaches that wont allow kids to hydrate themselves during practice in 90 + degrees. resulting in a players death, ya the kid actually obeyed the coach. o.k. placing the blame - we have kids of this age that are not able to appreciate the simple dynamics of their actions and net results there of, or the lack of "adult" supervision, javelin throwing, discus throwing, my word!. ban it all i say! if requires more energy then it takes to sit inside the house at a computer then ban it! ah but the the real fun here is not yet begun - "the litication phase". sorry but my rant must end here for this morning im heading up a team to search for the location of a massive gas leak that is apparently permiating this entire country . /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

And when you get back, you can tell me how you really
feel.

Got to know I'm just kidding. I got your message.

At least we can agree on the one thing: Adult
supervision certainly must have been absent at this
party -- oh, yeah, and we do have kids of this age not
able to appreciate the simple dynamics of their actions and
net results thereof.

I think coaches not letting athletes drink in hot
weather is, to say the least, rare. For the most
part, sports activities are safe and healthy. Don't know
just what went wrong here, but in any case, I don't think
anybody wants to see a repeat.

I suppose you're right, we can't ban sporting activities
because of injuries; but, if this were to be done again,
I would hope it would be supervised better so as not to
allow this to happen again.

Do you think you would be feeling any differently if it
were your son the victim, or would it be no big deal just
cause it's another day on the field? Just curious. Would
you litigate to help fend off medical expenses and
rehab expenses?

My experience is the gloves are off when the issue
hits home.

Last but not least, do know I respect your opinion and
appreciate your comments.

Sincerely,

2wrench, the last thing parents want to say is "despite our best efforts our child turned out an idiot." just like his late uncle willy who at 17 stole a car at knife point and drove it off a cliff and our family made millions suing the owner of the car for not preventing the theft and the city for not providing long enough roads, when my son was into rollerblading we made sure he had all the necessary equipment to prevent injury, but when he didnt use his knee pads cuz "well when your with the guys it aint cool" and he came home with a skinned knee he knew where to find the antiseptic and band aids, in other words he took responsibility for his lack of good judgement, we didnt go looking for a lawyer to sew the equipment manufacturer, or the owner of the property he fell on, my rant was not meant to be directed at you personally but rather at the huge gap in peoples judgements as to what is right and what is wrong, what is fair and what is not. dont worry all this will be cleared up if we can ever elect a women for president. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

And to think of all the non-bright things I did and got away without being scarred for life.

Seriously...

Like rethreading the snatch lever on a bailer while it is running.

whatsthatnoise, im right there with ya brother, but ill bet as myself you didnt try to cast the blame onto any other person and learned from it, come to think of it its a miracle im still around!

Yep...In fact...I was WARNED

And when bad things happened to me that I wasn't warned about, I was accused of not paying attention.

Pretty much a no win situation if I was culpable.

Dad didn't go for excuses much. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif

whatsthatnoise, oh yah them was the funnest things to try the things youd been warned about. believe me the self inflicted damage i sustained would be nothing compared to what id get if the old man ever found out.

I can hear my father's voice in my head now...

"So what do you think is gonna happen when the 20 guys in front of you start pulling on that rope?..."

"....And the other 20 guys get ta pulling against them?"

"Well......That rope is gonna want to....Straighten-out"

basil, another tragedy, col. girl falls between. semi truck and home coming float. optonline news channel. 10, may our prayers go out to all three of these kids.

Anthony: Absolutely no hard feelings on my part as
we exchange points of view.

Was the Uncle Willy story a true one or made up as an
example? Is it also true about the I think you mean
college girl, right, that fell between the truck and
float?

I have a feeling you're serious. Can't hardly believe
it.

Say, you also mentioned you're chasing with a team, or
chased, gas leaks. Do you work for the government,
PGE or something?

2wrench, hard feelings? not at all, the uncle willy story is not totally true i tried to use it to demonstrate the ridiculous direction i see our society going, i dont work for a gas company, pge, or the government at least not directly, yes the story of the girl falling between a float and the semi is true, id never joke around about something like that, search Denver post headlines, and yes i pray.

The tug of war rope is supose to be about 2" in diameter. Will hardly wrap around your waste much less anything else.

Thanks for the response and kind words, Anthony.

Also, yeah, seems they must have gone wrong on rope size,
for sure.
