Tracing history of a 100/6

Can anyone help a Brit who has a 100/6 (BN4L-O-42754) imported from California 2 years ago with minimal documentation. BMIHT clearly shows it was exported to Fort Worth Tx, in May of 1957 to the dealers Overseas Motors Corp. They still exist in the Dallas area, but have no records from that era and my calls to the Texas DMV reveal that they can not decode a VIN which looks like BN4L-O-42754.

Any ideas on how to trace the car's history, license plates or title will be much appreciated.

I can't help you with your search, but I own a '57 100-Six MM BN4L-0-45797, which is a Longenbridge built big Healey in October of '57 and imported to the west coast through SF. BTY, I love France especially the southern region. Spent a wonderful 2 weeks there 10 years ago. Avignon was wonderful, rented a villa in Aix-En-Provence.......wish is was here now.

mhd - Sorry to say your Longbridge had not been included in the Longbridge 2 Porthead Registry. We do have a BN4L-O-42697 located here in PA in the USA, with the same owner since the early 70's.

I own bn4-L-O-42865 which is pretty close. It was originally Florida green. I don't think that helps you at all, but it's nice to know there's another car that may have been built during the same week, or perhaps day, as mine at Longbridge.
 
Oh yes and it seems that many state DMV's don't retain records for longer than 15 years. I ran into the same issue in North Carolina, Oregon, and Arizona. They "purge their files" every decade or so. So tracing ownership history can be next to impossible. In cases where I've purchased a car where the owner had lost the title many years ago, the DMV no longer shows the VIN or plate # on file. So even though I had a bill of sale, I still needed to secure a "bonded title", which is pretty straightforward but requires and indemnity bond underwritten by a local insurance agent. Then a visit to or by a DMV agent, who will inspect the car and verify the vin #. Then in a few months or a year depending on the state, you're issued a clean title, provided of course no one disputes it.

Thanks all - seems that BN4L-42754 was stored in 1979 till 2008, so chances are we will never solve the mystery, all the removed parts were wrapped pages of the Houston Chronicle of November 1979 !
She (why is she a she ?) is nearing completion to factory new standard at Murray Scott Nelson in UK and will be here in France for various events later this year. It would have been great to have had some history !
 
She's a she because like any high maintenance woman, when all is well with her, she's a joy to experience!
