I am about to buy this from Woody :
Complete suspension kit
Strut bearings
KYBs
Big Brake kit
How much trouble to replace the suspension pieces. Did you use a spring compressor. Think I might have to rent one of those. Last time I did a strut spring or shock change was about 1982.
Any Ideas to help?
You'll need a strut spring compressor to compress the strut springs for installation. You'll need a come along or ratcheting strap to pull the ends of the front sway bar in to install in the control arms. It should take you a saturday afternoon to do the front. Removing the old bushings from the control arms can be a problem. I used a drill to drill holes in the old bushing to make it easier to remove. Lubing the bushings helps slip them in back into the K-frame.
The rear bushings took about an afternoon because of how long it took me to remove the old bushings from the control arms.
Now is a good time to replace (if not done already) the flexible brake lines with braided steel lines. If you need repair manual scans I can help again.
Yes as i still haven't gotten around to buy the book. I have PDF's for the 7 and I presume they are the same?
Is there much to remove on the front if I want to PC all the suspension?
I think the 7's suspension is identical (excepting for the front brakes being larger on the 8), not sure I understand the second question. I left the K frame on the car and removed the sway bar, control arms and strut assemblies. I tied the calipers up in the fender well out of the way. You may need a spanner wrench to remove the old strut nut from the strut assembly, or a large vise grips.
i did not swap out the sway bar but I was able to do the entire front end in a long evening and the rear in about the same. I am by no means a mechanic so it obviously was not that had. The new rear bushings made a huge difference
