Wedge TR8 Starting Issue

Here is the latest issue. Every once in a while when I put the key in the ignition, and turn it to start, NOTHING happens, the lights on the dash light up, but thats it. Then, I will turn the key back to the off position, then turn it to start again, and BAM, it fires right up! Any ideas? Starter, loose wire, relay?

Thanks!

Rod

you may want to check the wire connection on the starter 1st...

that happen to me so I changed out the ignition switch , it still did it. when I pulled the wires off the starter they were very greasy, I cleaned them up put them back on and it fired right up... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

What was the outcome of the fuel tank problem?, did you repair or replace it, how much did they end up charging you?

I had a similar problem with the plug running into the ignition switch. A wire did not want to make good contact inside the plug, thus not making a connection with the harness.
Following you wiring diagram, make sure all of your connections are clean and firmly attached.

Well, funny you should ask, I just picked up the car this afternoon, to the tune of $950 total parts and labor. Here is what "Goldi" got for my $950. A fully refurbished gas tank both inside and out, and new rear engine/transmission mount, new 80A Lucas Alternator, new coil, and New Rear Bushings (4). That total was for all of the above including all the labor to take everything out, and put everything back in! The labor was killer alone about $600. Now I have 3 new issues, I need a new starter, and a new Master and Slave Cylinder. As I was driving my "Money Pitt" home, the clutch was feeling VERY soft at times, and normal at others. So I was not even half way home, so I turned around, the mechanic did a few checks, then called Woody to confer, and they both agreed that since they were both original that I should replace them both. As far as the starting issue, that has been slowly getting worse over the last couple of weeks, and gets worse once the car is warm. Again he ran a few test and spoke to Woody and by the "clicking" noise and where that noise was coming from they both agreed the starter was on its way out. So all 3 parts are on they way from Woody. So I am about to drop another $500 on parts and labor included next week! I figure at this point the only major thing that has not been replaced on this car is the Radiator! So I am just waiting for that to leak! Wish me luck, I think I need to go to the Casino and win some money to pay for all this!!!! Just kidding, driving this car is gambling enough for me!

Thanks!

Rod

p.s. I finally have a nick name for my 8 "GoldiCostsA-Lot"

$900 doesn't sound too bad if it included all the parts, I'd agree, sounds like the starter, as they age they are less tolerant of the heat under the hood.
Keep us in the loop, look on the bright side, you give us somebody to compare to when we have to spend money, "at least I'm not spending as much as that RSMTR8 guy"
Good luck, it's worth it.
