hi guys, long tome no post. sorry.

ok, i know there have been posts about doing this swap, but my quick question is, on the tr8 starter there are 3 small wires. 2 are conected together on one side of the soliniod, and 1 wire by itself on the other side.
the discovery starter only has one spade connector on the solinoid.
can i connect all 3 wires to the one spade?
thanks tom

You should have 4 wires all together. One big brown one from the battery to the stud, one small brown one from the stud to the alternator, a white and red wire that goes from the starter relay to a spade terminal, and a white and yellow that goes from a spade terminal to the ballast resistor. This wire supplies 12 volts to the distributor during starting only. The rest of the time it gets something like 9 volts. You could splice the two small wires together since they are only receiving power when the key is in the crank position. I just looked at my stash of small Rover starters, and I noticed that one from a 97 has two spades. First time I noticed one like that, so I'll have to do a little research to figure out why.

on the tr8 starter solinoid itself, there were two small screws, on one side
are the letters, IGN. (ignition?) on the other side no letters. i think the single wire came off the ignition side and the 2 wires that were connected together came off the other side, i think these go to the ballast resistor?
and yes on my rover starter with the single spade, can i connect them all together?
tom

Without knowing what wires you have or where they go, I'm not comfortable telling you what to do. My post above tells you what is suppose to be there and where they go. Good luck.

here's a picture of the starter from my 8, and the starter from the discovery i want to use.
the starter off my 1980, carb. a/c car, had 2 small screws on the solinoid, on one side it had a single wire that was marked IGN. for the ignition. On the other side it had 2 wires on it, that go up to the ballast, that silver box thing in front of the car by the fans.
on the discivery starter all it has is a single tab, can i hook all 3 small wires to that tab? i'll try a picture.
thanks tom
