Wedge TR8 Smell.........

Wondering if anyone else has this issue. After a day of enjoying my TR8, when I go home and put the car back in the garage, I have to leave the garage door up for an hour. Why you ask? Well, the only way I can explain it is that it is like a HEAT SMELL, not exhaust fumes or anything like that, just from the actual heat of the engine or exhaust i guess! Just curious. My 8 does not have A/C, never did, so it does not have the electric cooling fans......but after an hour, the smell is gone......Thanks!

Please, I have that smell on me all day. I have to change the 8's parking pad once every three months from all the little oil leaks it has. I assume the smell is the engine burning off all the different leak's drops off

I don't have that problem. But of course my TR8 has to sit outside right now while my TR6 enjoys the posh lifestyle of having a garage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Could be, but I have to say, I have no leaks on the car that I am AWARE of, in others words no spots on my floor ever! Had the last oil leak fixed about 6 months ago......but I am sure there could be some real small ones that burn after the car is tuned off?!

I have a power steering leak (drops), a drip or two from the clutch line, a leak near the rear seal, and a valve cover that is leaking. I owe it to the 8 spending two year sitting in the garage not moving and only rarely starting. Will probably take two more years to fix all the leaks

Have you installed new High Temperature gaskets anywhere lately? That would be a source of the smell.

Even my modern cars give off a smell when parked after a hot ride...I think it's because I have them oil sprayed every year so as the oil build up on the bottom of the car gets hot it gives off that smell. I kinda like the smell, my Camaro is by far the worst...Even if it's in the driveway.

It is part of the Triumph Charm

Thanks for all the feedback, I just wanted to make sure that it was not just me...........Leaving the garahe door up for an hour is not that big a deal. I was just curious if there might be a problem, but I am going to asuume that it is nothing out of the oridnary for a 26 year old TR8.

Thanks!

Do TR8's have a catalytic converter?
Those things can get real hot when they get old and full of built up hydrocarbons.
