So, what is the best finish paint for the black band under the body panels?. It looks like something less than gloss but more than matte. I assume the black strip below the windshield is done in a semiflat. I was going to go with Krylon semi-flat (matte. One more question, the car is gold, does anyone have some come common codes and/or the name of it? I want to get a can from Tower paint or something along those lines. By any slim chance does anyone stock small bottles of touch up paint? I know that no one does that for MGs.

There were, I think, three different gold shades. I believe their names were Cashmere, Midas, and Pharaoh. On your ID plate on the door post, there is the three-letter code which identifies the paint shade. You may be able to cross that at an auto paint supply house. I may have some of the paint codes at the house, but won't be able to check until tomorrow. If you do a google search for TR7 (more of 'em than 8's, so probably better chance of finding), you'll probably find examples of each color.

As for the black panel, you're probably safe with a satin or matte finish.

I'll check my books and get back to you, if you don't get any other info.

The cars came with both a gloss black and a pebble gaurd matt finish on the rockers. I like the SEM spray cans found at body shop supplies for the black trim paint. I have done both finishes. It all depends on which one you want for the door trim and wiper panel. It looks funny if they don't match. I prefer the gloss on the four convertible colors and the matt on the coupe colors. I just did a white car with the matt and did the engine compartment with gloss. It looks fantastic. Did you recently purchase the gold TR8 that was for sale in Arundle ME? If so good luck with it. I looked at it when it was still in a snow bank. The owner first accepted my offer of $2500, but then backed out. I was not willing to go any higher. I've restored too many of these things to know the hidden costs. It would have taken many hours and thousands of dollars to get it to where it was as nice as ones currently for sale at 6K to 8K. Plus it was gold!
 
I had both PC'd a gloss black. came out beautiful.
Note to those who do this. Let me know if the PC'ing warps the body molding? Waiting on order for the clips. Todd have you installed new clips before?
 
The pebble coating should have a cut line just below the mouldings, but the black should continue up under the moulding. It should be flat under the moulding. The clips are tough to install. Get more than you need. You will break several during install. Insert the clip into the body hole. Hold the round stem/rivet loosely with a needle nosed plier. Tap the end of the rivet with a rubber mallet or very carefully with a metal one. Half of the time, the stem will fly across the garage instead of going into the button. Make sure you have clear floor space so you can find the little bugger again. Once it starts into the hole, you are all set. Just keep tapping lightly. If you get a stuburn one, you can break the stem free and sand a very small bevel into the end. Sometimes silicon spray can help. Some of the clips will just break as you push the rivet in. Once the clips are in place, put the moulding over one edge and whack the other edge with the palm of your hand. It takes a good whack. Don't use a mallet as it will leave dents in the trim. Make sure you get the trim located exactly where you want it front to back. Once it's on, you can not slide it. I haven't seen the special rivets at the front for years, so I just put silicon adhesive on the ends to make sure they don't fall out of the end of the trim piece.
