I'm helping a friend get his TR8 running again. It has no spark and I'm afraid the British Repair Operation Manual is not much help in this area. I have gotten plenty of cars running in the past. Does anyone know of a source that can help with specs and/or troubleshooting help with the electronic ignition?
 
I assume you checked to make sure the coil is stil good?

With a multimeter, check your current flow throughout the system. Make sure you have current in and out of all points.
Are you using points or electronic ignition? If points, is the insulator on the points installed properly? Also, I've had troubles before with a broken low tension lead from the coil to the distributor.
With electronic ignition. If Pertronics, if the cross wired at the coil, you will need a new unit. The wires must be routed inside the cap so not to rub the shaft. The car will run a few seconds before the insulation is gone and you are looking a buying a system.
 
This car is factory stock with electronic ignition. The only instruction in the manual is to connect it to an analyser. I'm looking for enough info to find out where the problem is with my trusty multimeter.
 
If it is still the stock electronic ignition, they are a known weak link in the system. A Crane unit, a points distributor or a new electronic distributor could be in your future. Do you have power going into the distributor?
 
I do have voltage at both the ballast resistor and the distributor.

no one has come forward with a troubleshooting proceedure or suggestions of a manual, so we may need to resort to using the wallet tool to purchase a solution.

Any advice on that subject?
 
What about going to basics. Remove the electronic ignition and try to manualy open the circuit to see if you get spark. That is just use the wire to simulate points (you should get a spark out out of the coil when you open the circuit on the primary of the coil. that at least will confirm your coil is working.
