Wedge TR8 Most Collectible List?

Nope, that isnot the article I remeber. Pretty sure it was a Car & Driver article, that specifically mentioned the TR8,not the 7.

Ah, come one...with only little over 1200 made, everyone knows the TR7 Spider is the most collectable TR. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Sorry,

It was the Peter Eagan article about the 7 I saw in June 06 Road and track and not the Car and Driver article about the 8.

CT - Way to much rain starting to affect the brain now.

I'd have to vote the TR2 as the most collectable....Way to gorgeous to be anything less.

Less than 400 TR8 coupes, including the pre-production models. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But then again, you have to like the coupes. Which I do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Oh, and if I recall correctly, the Peter Egan article specifically referred to the early four speed coupes that came from the Speke plant in Liverpool. The ones that generated the 'poor' reputaion for the wedges. The Canley and Solihull cars were much better built but a lot of damage had already been done.

I am also a convert to the wedge and all it took was driving one. I have no plans to get rid of either my TR6 or my TR8. Though I think my TR6 is beginning to get jealous of all the time I spend with my TR8. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

wow, our fleets are nearly identical. SCARY!

Still interested in finding that article from Car & Driver. There website has been less than helpful.

I had to make an emergency trip to Central Louisiana late last year, was taking a short cut to Alexandria up Hwy 165 north when out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of a TR8 convertible with a for-sale sign in the window. I smoked my brakes, spun around (my sick mother could wait) to check it out and no one was around. Darn. I made a point to return the next week and found the owner. He had sold it for a song. My bad luck. Neither the buyer nor the seller had a clue what they had, it had been won in a outlaw poker game and he just wanted some money. He told me the new owner was going to make a dirt track racer. I still cry.

78 pre-production looking for a good home

Nice pre-production coupe. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I would be interested if it wouldn't have to sit outside like my current coupe does. BTW, which ACN# is it? Mine was built in Dec. of '78 and is #15 of the production TR8's.

But remember of the 1200 TR7 Spider there were
only 200 that were fuel injected cars. And I have one.

Mine is ACN01052...I don't know where that would fall into line...but the build date is Aug 77.

I can not beleive some one who owns a Camaro, an 80's Camaro, the original Mullet Mobile, would make fun of anyones car.... LOL

Firstly that was an uncalled for comment....I assume your talking about me and I did not say anything any worse than what anyone else said. Don't get me wrong I love all British sports cars, it just seams that the TR7 is a bit of a friendly joke around car circles. I'll admit that if a TR7 came up for a decent price and in decent condtion I'd be interested, maybe not as a 'keeper' but as a beater to have some fun with.

As far as the Camaro goes I love my old Camaro, I like a car for the way it feels, looks, and the way it has treated me, not for any stereo types that go with it. That car carried me to work every day for 21 years, through every possible conditions without ever leaving me stranded or requiring major repair, and it still looks good enough to show well at a local cruise night or where ever I take it. I work as an executive for exxon mobil's canadian division and I'd drive that car up to the building every day and park with $100,000 luxury cars, sure I'd get weird looks and people would make the odd comment, but it didn't bother me in the least bit. I am a car fanatic, and I drive what makes me happy, not something that everyone else approves.
I finally figured the Camaro had given me way more than I ever expected and that it deserved to be entered into my permanent collection, where it will stay as long as I am around! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

Easy there, I was joking. I am an old Camaro fan, esp the early 70s with the year with the split front bumper

What the heck is a "Mallet?"

Sorry, I am a little touchy when it comes to that car......My mom had a flame orange `70 spit bumper when I was in highschool, I used to 'borrow' it whenever my MGA was out of commission or the weather was bad...Tons of memories in that car.

How many other factory V8 British sports cars are there?

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, quite a few. The list gets shorter when you limit it to convertibles:
TR8, Stag, MGB/V8, Morgan +8, TVR 380/450, Allards, AC Cobra, Sunbeam Tiger...Plus there were GT cars like the Jensen Interceptor, Bentley Azure...and certainly a few more that my tired brain can't recall at this very moment.

At the all British Field Meet yesterday, a guy was selling a near perfect Java Green TR7 coupe for just $2500. It was a nice looking car.

Quite honestly, while the TR8 is a better "investment" the TR7 is infinitely more fun and rewarding to drive.

The TR7 Spider is really the enthusiast's choice. Better steering feel, transmission operation and brake feel than the TR8s and smoother power delivery than the carbed TR7s.

It just reminds me of the old kids show song "which one of these is not quite like the others, which one is not quite the same" when compared with your other cars. Esp the 80's, I remember the IROCs. Just not the GM materpeice. But I never rip anyone's car choice any way but Jest. I still love the old International Scouts, next to my Hummer, my favorite 4x4 vehicle I have ever owned.
