I believe the Lumention unit of unknown age has died. What are easy replecments. I just this car a bit ago so I do not know yet if it has the Opus system intact or not (car not onsite right now). It is a Zenith equipted 80 model. Can I do a Pertronix? I can't seem to find one for the engine.
Another Lumenition? Crane? Ideas?

I am not sure if for sure it is the ignition but we will figure that out later so I am looking for thoughts only the replacement if it is required.

Thanks,
Carl

small block v-8 of GM origin.
Let's see mallory, Accel, Crane, just a few that pop to mind.

I will need one that is compatable with the lucas distributor. Would that not be more specific than 'small block GM'. If not, great but it seems from looking at many online catalogs that is not the case. I have been trying to track down a Crane PN# for my TR8. I found one that 'may' work.

https://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=197914

It would appear the Crane PN is 700-0292
Is there an Accell or Mallory that will work with The Lucas Opus era distributor?

Very new to TR8's need help.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you are correct. Pertronix does not make a unit for the 35DE8 that came with the stock TR8. Lumenition and Crane (Victoria British sells the Crane) are the only ones who make replacement electronic ignitions. The Lumenition has been known to fail. Carry a spare. The Crane as well, plus it is a bit unwieldy to install.

You can almost just as cheaply switch over to a Mallory dual point distributor and Pertronix for the same price as a Lumenition (expensive).

This is the Crane part no. I have:

Part #W0133-1607076

I don't think either of the ones you located are correct. I'd buy from VB honestly to make sure you got the right one.

Thanks Jeff, I found the 700-0300 to be the part number for the 8cyl lucas opus replacment. What I cant tell for sure is that with the lumenition unit being in the dist now am I missing something crane needs to hook up to that is not in the crane kit (module?)

This the pic from VB, Is there anything in the dist that I would be missing due to the lumenition?

I was amazed and found a mallory distributor #4768901 on Amazon.com for about $268 + free shipping??! Not where I expected to find auto parts. I crossed it to a 1980 Rover 3500.

I just finished a Crane conversion into my 1980 carbed TR8. It really was a fairly simple install. I purchased the kit from TS Imports. I do remember the instructions were a little confusing, but I called Ted at TS and he walked me right through it. The cost for the kit was around $130.

I know it is a lot more money, but, I personally would opt for the Mallory dizzy now. You can add spark boxes and all kind s of goodies when you upgrade the performance.

I was just surprised that you could purchase auto parts and supplies at amazon.com.

I don't think so. I think both kits replace the ignition trigger module. I think you are ok.

I could not find a Crane Ignition anywhere (back ordered. Even tried TS. I finally was able to locate a rebuilt points style dizzy from Jeff Schlemmer at www.advanceddistributors.com I have purchase from him in the past and he has come through for me everytime. He custom builds to engine spec.

Actually, there is one on eBay right now as well.

Well that one popped up since Saturday  I kind of need it before 7 days so I will watch it to see what it goes too. Thank you very much Jeff for your help. It may be the wrong one as 700-0300 is the spot on one. It appears to be the 700-0230 one which I have head of before. Is that one correct also? I will be very happy with the points dizzy for the near future. If Jeff Schlemmer set it up, I will like it just as well
