Wedge TR8 Header fit

I purchased a header for one of my Rover V8's several years ago from one of the usual vendors and finally installed it. However I am having a problem with the clearance of the header pipes on the right side. The tube is forced up against the bell housing and transmission mount when I tighten up the header to exhaust port fasteners.

Do you guys think it would be ok to use a lever to slightly bend the tube clear of the bell housing and rear mount?

I had thought of enlarging the holes for the fasteners but I think that would affect the port alignment to the header flange.

No, I purchased from a well known US vendor and had it sent out for ceramic coating. So it could have been originally bent slightly out of whack, at the shop doing the ceramic coating, or in shipping.

I did have to place the header inside the engine bay before seating the engine, it wouldn't go in after the mounts were fastened.

The right side must be problematic; mine was right up against the frame rail, at the collector point. I had the muffler shop "modify" it a bit by heating it and putting a dimple in it to give a bit more room there.

Well, you do have to maneuver around the "battery box", starter and clutch slave cylinder. The left side you only have the steering column shaft.

Yeah, Don, the TR8 retains the TR7's engine bay "battery shelf" -- it's still there on the firewall, passenger side, and the corner of it can be a bitch to get the headers around.

Is that where the canisters sit that I don't need/

that's the spot.

Makes a great spot to put your beer/coffee/etc. while working!
