Wedge TR8 free fall window

Just got back from Ft Dix and apparently my 8 was feeling slighted I did not take him. The driver side window just free falls. The window crank feels like it stripped. Any one every replace a window crank mechanism before? I will be taking the 8 to DC when I move there for most of the summer for ease of parking and the milage. WIll need to do some emergency work on the door locks and trunk lock to get them working.

If your window crank is stripped you'll feel the individual splines as you turn it. However, if the crank turns smoothly without anything happening it's more likely that the glass fell out of the regulator and that isn't an unusual problem.

Replacing the glass in the regulator is, unfortunately a real PITA because window regulator assemblies were invented by Martians to drive humans crazy. I'd describe the process, except there isn't any real process to it, just trial and error until it goes into place. You'll see when you get into it, assuming that's your problem. If that is your problem, be sure to silicone the glass into the regulator track before buttoning everything up to make sure you don't have to repeat the process.

If it is stripped splines you can try setting the handle in JB Weld. It's worth a try before replacing hard to find parts. Let us know what you find.

i had one of the tabs the bottom of the window track is attached to tear out on my DHC causing the window to fall down. the regulators aren't that hard to find, and i don't find them all that difficult (compared to my wife's 68 mustang) to replace, the dhc being easier than the fhc.

It looks like I may now not be going to DC for the next year so if you had a radio in that rover I would be driving it home to try to squeeze it into my garage

Bless you, child. I had the threat of serving at Ft. Dix 37 years ago. Chose Ft. Polk, instead. That said, I grew up in the woods around the infamous Ft. Puke so this was home to me.
Man, that was a long time ago.

I have been to probably the most of the large army post in the US, I have never seen a major Army post with less to do around it. Dix truly does suck. That said, Polk is the only post I know where you can eat Gator, crayfish, and a variety of smoked dead animals all at one spot

I'm sure the radio works. Or did, at some point. For a little while anyway. When the locks worked and you could get into the car that is....
