Ok,

I spoke to my mechanic today, and apparently there is a shop in town that does great custom work that he suggests. They do Aluminized or Stainless Steel systems. I need pro's and con's on both!

THANKS!

Aluminized mufflers and pipes are coated steel. When scratched, they rust. They also burn out.

For the few dollars difference, stainless is a far better choice.

Aluminized will usually outlast mild steel (unless you scratch it too much as Bill indicates). Stainless will far outlast both of them. Stainless does change your exhaust note slightly. My experience is that it lowers/deepens the exhaust not a bit. Which doesn't really bother me much.

So, who has a Stainless Steel system on their 8, and how much are we talking?!

Thanks!

I bought the ss "loud" system with ss headers from Rimmer Brothers in England a number of years ago when they ran one of their American specials. I had to "ding" one of the headers to clear the steering knuckle, but had no trouble installing it myself. I love it. I had one guy follow me a couple of miles on a curvey road pull beside me at a stop sign and tell me he shut off his radio and opened his window just to hear the 8's sound. At the time I thought the price was more than reasonable, I couldn't find a system in the states near the price, but the pound-to-dollar has significantly changed since then. Have you checked their offerings?

I had custom exhaust installed on my Tr8 and I'm very satisfied with the FINAL results. Stainless steel was used along with MagnaFlow resonators and mufflers. The first guy I had work on the car couldn't get the clearance correct over the rear end after two attempts. Every time I'd drive over a small bump, the axle would hit the exhaust. Finally, I decided to go to another shop who corrected the mistakes. I don't remember exactly what was spent but I believe it was around $500 for install and mufflers. Well, I ordered the Falcon sytem today. Should be here next week! I will let ya know how it goes. My mechanic said he would install it for $75. I went to a local place to get an estimate, and they wanted $600 for an Alumizied system, and $1,000 for Stainless. So the Falcon system will run me about the same installed as the local shops aluminized!

Try TRF,they are having a sale>

Oops, Just the headers are on sale,

I got in this one late, so all I can do is congratulate you. You made the right choice. Stainless. I put a stainless on my 6 back in 87. Transferred it over to its 3rd car now.

I use a stainless on my bike (Yamaha FJ1200 with 120K miles on it). Nothing lasts longer.(that I know of anyway).
