Wedge TR8 Exhaust System

Ok, here is the latest update. They have the Gas Tank out of the car, and my mechanic is suggesting to replace the rear Exhaust. What is the best way to go? Should I order from V.B. and go original, or just go some place in town and see what they can do? I want the car to be as original as possible, but not spend a fortune. Also, I want to car the be quite, not loud! Any recomendations are appreciated!

Thanks,

Rod

If you want it quiet then I think you're going to have spend the money. You can have an exhaust shop bend up the pipes to fit and slap on a cheapo muffler but I don't think you'll be happy with the results (ask me how I know). Besides that, custom bending of pipes ain't cheap. Exhaust tuning is an art/science and somebody spend some time and money to come up with that mellow exhaust note and I think the easiest, and maybe cheapest way to replicate it is to use the hardware they designed.

On the other hand, if you can stand a little more exhaust note, you might want to experiment with a custom setup. I ran sidepipes with cherry bombs and it's music to my ears. Don't need no stinkin' stereo. I've got two channels blasting in my ears.

Good luck.

I appreciate the input, but call me old fashioned, but for me, the quiter the better. So are the new replacement from V.B. stainless steel? In other words wont rust?

I think the good muffler shops can make you what you need ALLOT cheaper than you can order, even take a pic in of what Vickie's has to offer and they will probably copy it. I had the local shop make me a set up like an older Mustang. That set up did not work so I took in a pic out of my repair manual and they made an exact copy for me substituting minus the cats. That set up was a little loud so I went back and they added a set of baffles behind the headers. I really enjoy the current rumble.

Call Woody. He has all kinds of stock stuff stored away that he removed to install high HP mods. Second choice would be to go to a custom muffler shop. The Stainless systems I've seen are loud. A good TR8 system should be throaty but soft at idle, but should growl when you get on it. You are driving a v8 sports car, make sure everyone knows it!

As always, all good TR8 advice goes back to Woody
