Wedge TR8 Engine & Tranny Installed

The engine & tranny are finally installed and running. One leak: The p/s pipe to hose flare union. I tightened the union and am waiting for one more decent, dry day to take the car out to see if the clutch and tranny work in gears other than neutral. We have some snow and freezing rain. If the salt trucks come out, I'll wait til spring.

Looks beautiful! Keep us posted and include more pics. Congrats as well!

Ain't it grand? I've got a p/s leak as well, but it's not that bad, and I'm sure plenty more things will need tightening up as I finish up.

Your valve covers look good. I stripped mine, and am planning on painting them in the spring.

What a great looking engine! It's going to be a long winter if you have to wait til spring to get 'er on the road.

How does that round air cleaner clear the hood? I've got one of those Edelbrock triangular low profile AC's and it just barely clears. Would love to have "real" one for the better protection.

As for the PS leak, I've got one too. Join the party.

Tom

Here's my air filter arrangement - Holley item that I had machined to fit.

Cheapsnake, the aircleaner is 10" X2" and I bought it at Checker; it fits fine with the bonnet closed. I have a Holley (Princes Leah type) identical to Mickey's that I used with the stock valve covers but it won"t clear the center oil fill on the Offy covers. The Holley is like new and for sale.

"Princess Leah type" - Haven't heard that one! In keeping with the Forum's Star Wars theme, I may have stumbled on a name for my 8! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It works! I took it out on the road today and everything works. I think even the p/s stopped leaking after I tightened the union more. The weather forecast for next week looks promising so I'm hoping to drive it until the snow and salt trucks come. If it weren't for Xcountry skiing, I'd be tempted to move to a place where I could run the TRs year 'round.

The more Wedges I see, the more I like them (I always have) and that head-on pic of yours, JFS, is REALLY nice! What a great looking car!

Do it, John! The TR8 is the ultimate stealth Mustang killer. They never know what hit them. Ya kinda gotta tweak'em a bit to approach modern handling standards, brakes included.

The way I would look at something like a nice TR8 would be, let's see, ummmmm, 15 molar root canals? When you think about it in those terms, it becomes easy to justify. Dedicated dentistry I call it. We get pleasure from other people's pain.

Congrats on the startup! There's nothing like that first fire when you turn the key and all heck breaks loose. ****, makes me want to go out and build me an engine. Enjoy!

Tom

Yes, congratulations indeed! It was wonderful after building mine and hearing it fire up. And today looks like a good day to listen to it some more! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What's your price on the air cleaner?

Mickey

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I especially enjoy the roll up windows and heater (I've been driving my TR3 for 25+ years).
Mickey, Princess Leah can be had for half of what I paid for her. I bought her from Yearwood Speed & Custom for $219.95 + shipping. $110 + shipping for the Princess.

DANG! Wish I'd waited. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I'll pass that on, though.
