ok gentlemen really bad bad problem

my mechanic (triumph master mechanic certified by triumph) has told me that my ecu is not sending a signal to my ecu to pulse the injectors so it is bad he is checking the wiring to make sure it is not the wires...so my question is will the ecu from a SD1 3.5l rover work on this car is it the same i have swaped other parts off this car with good luck but i would hate to buy the ecu and it not work..

any help???

Best advice I can give is to compare the ECU pinouts. Wasn't the SD1 only available in the UK?

nope there was a sorry attempt to import here and you can still find a few in salvage yards but it has been a long time since i saw one on the road but i think some are still around..

Yours may actually be repairable, there are a few good articles on it specific to the TR8, and even someone who will do it for minimal cost. I'll dig up the info I have on it and post it in the next couple of days.

The ECU is a Lucas 4CU, the only revisions were in the programming and resistor sets to upgrade emissions performance. Yes, there were Federal Specification SD1's in the USA from 1979-81, but not many.
Two reputable repair places for the 4CU ECU, RPi Engineering in the UK, and Franc Buxton in the UK. Franc's web site isFranc's SD1 pages. Franc will also add performance modifications to give you a bit more go go.
Shame, I just sold my SD1 EFI setup on Sunday to a friend adding a 3.5 Rover V8 to an MGBGT.

So you probably have a crank sensor that may have gone bad. If no crank sense, no injector signal. Just a thought.

Seems to me there is a guy in California parting out 13 SD1's I saw on Ebay. Some of those will have ZS carbs. There is another guy in Oklahoma with some SD1's. Also, Ted Schumacher of TSI has access to used parts like ECU's too. Woodie's Wedge Shoppe is another source.

Maybe post an email on
buick-rover-v8@autox.team.net
but you have to subscribe first.

That is one NICE Tr8
So you think he will get $14,500 for the TR8? Looks cherry for sure. Wonder how he conn'ed the original owner out of the car?

The guy that runs the TR8CCA will attempt repair on TR8 ECUs basicly for the cost of shipping and materials used, but he has a disclaimer that it may not get done quickly.

Look in the "Tech Corner" section.

Also there is an article with wiring diagrams and basic instructions for doing it yourself, but its in the members section for the World Wide TR7-TR8 Owners Club.

Ted at TSI may be able to help you out also. I have seen reference to them having rebuilt ECUs available.
