Hello All,

I have a 1980 TR8 with original Stomberg carbs. I am thinking about replacing them. Any suggestions? I have been told Holley 390. But I need more info. Like do any mod's have to me made for these to fit etc. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I'm in the middle of the restoration and rebuild of an '80 TR8, and in the same place you are. However, I'm close to being talked out of switching over to 4-barrel, and staying with the ZS's. I'm in Clarksville, Tenn. - where are you in KY? Glad to share info/experiences with you.

I bought my TR8 with Edelbrock 4bbl, Offenhauser intake and mild cam. I have added the ss dual exhaust with long branch headers from Rimmer Bros. I have had the car five years and love it.
 
I think that the Carter/Edelbrock 500 "Performer" is the preferred carb these days, at least on MGB V-8s where under the hood space is a major consideration: https://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/carb_square.html
But as I do not own a carbed Rover V-8 I cannot vouch for Carter vs. the Holley. From the standpoint of flow volume you really do not need more than 390 CFM. The Carter uses metering needles, and is more modern (actually a Weber design IIRC).
Once upon a time I did own an 83 Range Rover that had Strombergs, which I replaced with a Holley Projection Throttle Body setup. I also recall that in the UK a popular alternative is to use SU HIF44s on the stock "pentroof" manifold.

MY 8 came with a Holley 390, after 4 months of trying to refine it and adjust it and everything eles, I went to eldebrock and love it, simpler, easier to adjust, and I sold my Holley for twice what the Eldebrock cost me
 
Aren't SU's a direct replacement for ZS's? Except for the linkage. But I've seen some nifty looking SU setups for the Rover v8 engines.
 
Well, I now have the Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley 4bbl carb w/ auto-choke installed . So far everything is great. How old was your 390, because I have the newest version, and they have made some nice improvements. I will let you know. Just got it back Friday, and have only driven it once with the new carbs so far.

May I ask the model of the Edelbrock you switched to? I am having some problems with the Holley. When it is set to 3.5 fuel pressure it is not enough to run well. But when I switch it to 4, it drips after I turn the car off and then has problems restarting!

I bought the 500 CFM Edelbrock. I beleive it is called an eliminator. I have my fuel pressure set to about 4.5 to 5. I have a Offy intake which it is mounted on
