I'm trying to rebuild my extra TR7 engine, and I can't get the forkin water pump to come apart. I got it out of the block with no real trouble. I just can't get ANY of it to come apart except the bolt on top (can't even get the stupid brass cage to come off from the outside of it). It's the later style 12 vane from a 79 engine. Any suggestions?
 
Angel, I did my 79 last summer. As par as I could tell it was original. My came apart hard as well but it did come. I put the bolt back in (not tight) clamped the impeller carefully in a vise with brass jaws and tapped away. Dont tap too hard as the impeller is just cast and therefore fragile. If your patient and carefull, this will work. Just be very carefull not to tighten the vise too much and dont hit it too hard. Good Luck
 
Ok, I tried it last night after spraying down the top with penetrating oil. Neither that one, nor the one out of the 76 came apart. All I managed to do was muck up the threads on the bolts. I thought about heating them up, but doesn't cast iron expand more slowly than forged steel? (If I'm wrong about the water pump composition, PLEASE tell me.)

Not sure what else to tell you, other than I have and old water pump with a new bearing & seal, a good impeller, but a boogered up drive gear and brass bushing that I would be happy to send you if it could be of any use to you. Send me an E-mail and let me know where to ship to.
