TR7 SU Conversion- Request to the MG Guys

Offline
I posted this over on the Triumph side but thought I might post here as the real issue is an SU question more than a Triumph question.

The original thread is at:

I am in the process of changing out the Stromberg's to SU's on the TR7. I have a question related to the throttle linkage between the two carbs. There is a solid bar that joins to two carbs together. When put in place it is extremely tight, almost binding and I see no adjustment. The linkage and carbs came off of a British TR7 and it is tight when put on the original British manifold.

Question: Is there an adjustment for that bar longitudinally? Is is supposed to be that tight?

Any advice before I start shaving off metal would be greatly appreciated!

It should "float" before the two are synched.

Got any photos?

The two center linkage bars when everything is installed should have a little side to side play, if not, this can cause binding, the most common issue is the two lever arm that activae the side linkages on the carbs might be too close agaisnt the side of the carbs, not allowing side to side play. The other issue could be the round bar itself could be a tad long, and need to be shortened, but try adjusting the two lever arm inboard a tad before shortening the the round center bar itself. Hope this helps.

Update- Problem fixed by a little judicious use of the file on the bar. Appears to be working fine. Now on to tuning.

Thanks for all the input.
