Wedge TR7 Spider Seats

Hello,
I am new to the British Car Forum. I have a Triumph TR7 Spider ( I know...barely British enough to be allowed--chuckle) In any case, I am picking up some TR7 seats and rails from the Bay area as the current seats are from an unknown vehicle and are welded to the rails. The seats, of course, are fixed/stationary. My husband (all 6-6 of him) can't even sit in the car! I would like to have these seats re-upholstered to look similar to what was originally in the car: Grey and black fabric stripes with black leather trim. Any ideas where I can get this fabric or something similar? Rimmer, Victoria, Moss, do not carry anything like this. Do I just show up to an upholstery shop with a picture of what it should look like? I am running into the same issue with the shaggy, "pewter" carpeting that was original. I would welcome any ideas or suggestions! Thanks Bunches!

The fabric for those seats has been unavailable for a long, long time. Unless someone has had it reproduced over in England lately, I think you will have to go in another direction. The all black seat covers are still available and would look nice in the black spider body. Stock seats sit rather low in the car. Returning back to the stock seats will probably be the best bet for you and your husband. There are many TR7 and TR8 owners that fit into the large person category. The car was truely designed for the big and tall.

Hi, and welcome, Monica! Glad to see another Wedgie among us!

I think your idea about going to an upholstery shop is probably your best bet. The original covers shouldn't be too difficult to duplicate, if you're going for the look. And I'm sure they can get close to the carpet as well.

You might check with The Roadster Factory to see if they have either, especially the carpet. There's an associated company, The Magic Carpet Co., that supplies them with kits, so they may have already done some of the "homework" for you.

Again, glad to have you aboard, and keep us posted on your findings.

Welcome Monica! As a fellow wedgehead and Spider owner, I've done some poking around on these issues, and unfortunately the news is bad. Neither the fabric for the seats nor the carpet has been available for a long time. I've checked with TRF/Magic Carpet and had them send me samples, but nothing they have was a match for the shaggy gray carpet. The closest was a deep pile.

I would take the car to local upholstery shops. Check with local car clubs and find one(s) that deal in special orders and classic cars, as they may be able to find something that is close. Likewise, they may be able to find a material for the seats that even though it won't match, may be close. I have some photos of the original seats from a sales brochure I can send you if you need them, as my car's upholstery had already been redone (and will need it again in the not too distant future).

The seats should ot be "fixed stationary" either. They should not only slide back and forth whenever you need them to butthe seat back should also have a tilt adjustment. You might have some 'freeing up' to do to the rails when you get the seats out.
