Wedge TR7 Speedo question. Which went in What?

Hope all in the U.S. are having a great long Thanksgiving weekend.
On Ebay, I noticed a listing for a TR7 Speedo. The listing says that it is "Rare" because it goes to 140 mph. Well, it jogged my interest. In my '78, my Speedo is only in kph, up to 230.. there is not mph at all on it. I have, also, a Speedo that was in the trunk when I bought the car, that has kph as the main, and mph as the background. I had picked up another '78 two years ago and parted it out. I have the full instrument panel, and the Speedo in it is the same as the "rare" one on Ebay. 140 mph as the main and 220 kph in the background.
What I realy don't understand is the one I have now, only in kph. I never saw a car in Canada without both, from the 70's or 80's.
Is there a book available, like the "Clausager" I have for my MGB, which give all this type of information? ie, what goes in what year, and to which country /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif.
Thanks

Paul

Rare on eBay means about as much as Mint does.

Hey that was nicer then what I was gonna say abou rare on ebay. Now let me ask you this how many things have you seen on ebay that weren't rare?

Perhaps my Quotation ( " " ) marks around the word "RARE" in my origional post confused some into thinking I believed it was /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif
All I wanted to know was if there is a GOOD BOOK to be found, for TR7's, like the CLAUSAGER Book I have that gives all details regarding exterior, interior etc. for all years of MGB's. Just pretend I want to make my car like right out of the factory. (Ya Right)
OH, and that "RARE" Speedo sold for $73 bucks.

both my tr7's have 140mph speedos, and i sold a 230kph speedo for around $20 (I think) about six months ago when I purchased an entire brand spankin' new instrument panel from the UK and swapped out speedo to stay with the 140 mph speedo. I paid about $200 including shipping for the new instrument panel, $73 for a speedo seems steep.

wedgeparts has them listed:

TKC 240 speedometer, 140 mph 59.95
TKC 241 speedometer, 230 km/h 29.95

I think it was only US 81+ that had the goofy 85 MPH speedos. I don't think there is a book that is accurate enough to be an authority on what went on what cars when. Pigott has many mistakes in this regard.

Best bet is to consult the notes in the Unipart Parts Catalogue.

Would you believe there is another "Rare" 140 mph speedo on EBAY now! High bid is $102.50 with 4 bidders !!! Who said they wern't rare? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

My '80 Spider has an 85 mph speedometer with kph in small numbers in the background. The US federal authorities believed that "speed kills," so all US speedos had to be restricted to indicating a maximum of 85. It was a silly requirement, akin to the "door is ajar" warning voices and buzzers.

Bill Piggott's book is a good start. In his introduction, he states quite clearly that the BL records were in such disarray when he undertook the book that he couldn't even be certain of production numbers. He relies on sales brochures to make sense of regional market options and special packages, like the US Spider and Southern Skies models. He apologizes often in print in the text for potential errors.

My '80 TR8 also has the "goofy 85 MPH" speedo. But when the national speed limit was only 55 MPH, who needed more? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif
