I'm starting to *finally* reassemble my TR7 after having it repainted and had ordered a bunch of miscellaneous hardware, fasteners, etc. I had ordered replacement sill plate clips...but they only came with the bottom retainer portion...not the top plastic button that goes on top of the plates...and of course I threw the old ones out as I destroyed them getting the plates up without damaging the plates themselves.

I can't seem to find these parts at any of the usual suppliers...anybody have any suggestions? I've looked through VB, Moss, TRF, and Wedgeparts with no luck...
 
Rimmer Bros. part #GHF 1082 says they've got them at .28 pounds ea. My price list is nearly 2 years old though. These clips look a lot like many I deal with on Honda motorcycles. Honda uses several different clips on each model, seems there should be one that would work on those sills. Many of them have a flush lock button that is pushed in to release. Then too a pop rivet would work and some black magic marker would hide them nicely. Good Luck. I'd bet you come up with an excellent fix and can tell us all about it.

I'll check out the local Honda cycle dealers and see if I can find something that works. They are similar in function to clips I've had on past (newer cars), but nothing that small.

I guess Rimmer is always a possibility too, although shipping would probably kill me...

I'll let you know what I find...I may also try to find some intact ones off a local parts car...
 
I live in a small town here in the "middle of no where", WI. We have a NAPA, a Carquest and a United parts store in town. All of them have drawers full of just about any clip or fastener one could imagine. You might want to one of the parts houses locally.

I always thought that if I won the lottery, or if long lost aunt Tilley passed away and left me her millions the first thing I would do would be to line an entire wall of my shop with every nut bolt and fastener know to man. But since I dont play the lottery, and to my knowledge I dont have an aunt Tilley either, thats probly not going to happen.
 
Smors, the retainers that hold the sill plates on are just the one piece. The diagrams in all the parts catalogs shows it upside down, so that may be what is confusing you.

If you have the correct part, it should have 4 prongs on one end and a plastic rod on the other end, with a plastic band in the middle. The rod actually pushes down into the thing to make the 4 prons spread out.

To install them, line your sill plate up with the holes and push the end of the clip with the prongs through one of the holes in the sill plate. You then push the rod down so it forces the prongs out to hold the sill plate in place.
 
Unfortunately the ones I got were one integrated piece and in white..the ones I pulled off were two piece and from what I see in the catalogs they were likely the wrong fasteners (part of what confused me). I tried a local NAPA, AutoZone, CarQuest, and a body shop to no avail. I stopped by a local Honda motorcycle dealership (as per Dale's suggestion), but they weren'y too eager to help...guess I won't buy my next 2-wheeled conveyance from them...

Oh well...I'll keep trying. There's a large Napa down the road from work, and I'll try a couple other motorcycle houses...I really don't want to install white fasteners on the black sill plates and black grill between the bumper and front valance (although Dale's paint solution is sounding better and better

My next suggestion would be to stop into your friendly neighborhood bodyshop and ask them. At the very least they may be able to provide you with a source. There are companies out there who make nothing but little fasteners such as these and this shouldnt be to difficult to hunt one down.
