Wedge TR7 Rear Brake Shoes

I've got an 80 TR7 that has a problem with the emergency brake. It doesn't work. On inspection, the rear brake shoes that are on the car have no provision for the emergency brake. There should be a notch in the shoe for the mechanism to fit. They don't. I ordered new shoes from V-B and they are identical to the pair that are on the car. However, the illustration in the catalog shows the correct shoes. When I complained to V-B, they said I was only one of two complaints in 12 yrs and therefore have no grounds. Has anyone else had this problem?

I suspect there must be some similar Lockheed brake setup -- in terms of diameter and width of shoe but perhaps with a manual adjusting setup rather than the self-adjusters of the TR7. That's the only reason I can think of why otherwise identical shoes might lack the one "notch"? Regardless, I can't say I agree with the vendor's cavalier attitude! :frown:

I got a set of shoes that did not have the notches/mounting holes for the e-brake mechanisms. It does happen but rarely.

What did you do about it? Did you do without e-brake? Does moss or some other vendor have the correct shoe? If anyone has an accident with those shoes from V=B, someone will own a parts store.

Well Im not tossing in any plugs but I got them from teh wedge shop and told them what happened and I got the right one......he opened the box up and made sure they had the right holes/tabs. The other for the $16.00 are now wheel chalks.

Are you sure it's the shoes. I went for a while without my e-brake and it was because I messed up the reassembly....I had brakes but no e-brake.

can't you get the old ones relined? My e-brake wasn't working very well and I figured out that somebody previous to me had the lever on the rear axle facing 180 out (above the rear axle).

I'm sure about the assembly. I'm more upset about the attitude of the parts supplier. I sold the car so I can start on a TR3B project. I want the new owner to be safe as can be in a 30 yr old car.
