My niece has asked if I could replace the gearbox mount on her TR7. Having only worked on MBG's I need some help. What is the easiest way of replacing this mount? Can I somehow move the trans up and out of the way enough to re and re the mount.
What would you recommend I loosen or detach before attempting this. Thanks.

Easy fix. Jack up the car and support with jackstands. Put the jack under the steel case for the tranny. There is a large bolt that goes up thru the middle of the cross member. Loosen that, but do not remove it yet. Remove the four 13mm nuts at the outer edges of crossmember. The bolts that stick down thru the body are held in place with a strip of steel inside the car. There is no need to remove any interior pieces. Finish removing the big bolt and the whole cross member will drop. The tranny mount is bolted to the top side of the cross member. Remember the way the washers, spacer and metal cup are assembled. Remove and replace the mount(two bolts). Reinstall the cross member and your done. The tranny mounts get oil soaked and turn to jelly. If you have to change out the shifter bushings, you are in for a world of hurt. I would have to type for an hour to tell you how to do that one. If they are toast, I would drop back and punt.

as long as you are under there you may as well replace the tranny fluid.
