Wedge TR7 gasoline odour

Good evening all. I have a very strong gasoline odour coming from the carbs. They are Zenith Stromberg 175 CEDs. Checked all the fittings and they are dry. It seems that fuel continues to seep into the carbs when the engine is off. Any suggestions as to the cause and repairs.
 
Sounds like the float chamber needle valve is open.
There is a certain amount of residual fuel pressure even after the pump stops working and there might be a certain amount of hydrostatic head from the fuel level in the gas tank.
You can check the needle valves and to cut off the fuel regardless of what you find , install a cutoff valve, like this one.
 
Sounds like the floats could be sticking. what type of fuel pump? electric or mech? If you remove the hose for the bowl vent on a carb. fuel should NOT come out of the carb. if it does, the float valve is sticking.
 
The floats don't usually stick..The pivot is rather loose.

If anything is stuck, it'll be the float chamber needle valve:

If you find you have a Grose jet (far right), replace it with the original plunger style.
 
Thanks for the tip guys. It seems the problem was a leaky float chamber gasket. Replaced it today and just came in from the garage and there is no gasoline smell. I checked the jets and they are the plunger style. The floats are free as well. Thanks again for your help.
 
I don't believe the fuel was supposed to get that high in the float chamber if the car was on level ground.
