Wedge TR7 Brake light won't go off

Okay, at least I can drive it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif...but the brake warning light on my '80 TR7 stays lit even with the parking brake off. Where should I look for the problem? When I put the ebrake off, the light dims a little...is the TR7 like the TR6 in the sense that the brake light is also a brake pressure indicator?
 
There's a pressure switch on the bottom of the master cylinder. If you bleed brakes without removing it, it could cause it. Of course, if the light dims when the handbrake is released, the Prince of Darkness may be paying you a visit with a bad ground. Check the grounding on the handbrake switch.
 
Hey Richard isn't there a swich at the handbrake itself. I seem to remember two little wires running off mine into the tub. Any chance that switch is stuck?
 
Possibly. I haven't had to tear into mine (and I subscribe to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it theory") but there has to be a switch on it somewhere similar to how the switch works for the foot brake pedal. The reason I was thinking bad ground instead of bad switch was that Sammy says the light dims but doesn't go out.
 
Thanks guys, I'll go clean the connections and see where that gets me...of course, it's always a possibility that with the car sitting so long, the brake fluid has some water in it, causing the light to come on for a reason.
 
Easy fix, guys. I went out there and first just pulled off the connector under the master cylinder, and the light went out. Plugged it back in, and the light went back on. Fiddled with the wires leading into the connector, and it went off.

Score another one for: old ground wires losing contact.

Problem solved...thanks for the help.

Yes. I put it on 2 years ago. I really like it, as it really deepens the tone of the exhaust, especially when decelerating. It's not overly loud, and although I don't know whether it actually made the car faster or not, it sure "sounds" faster. Installation only took about an hour, and had to "modify" (read as beat with a hammer) a bracket to make it all fit. Besides, I thought that the stock tailpipe was "butt-ugly" for such a "cute little car" (my wife's name for it). I'd checked out just tipping the tail pipe, and to do it right would have cost almost as much as the monza itself. If you're interested, there's been one listed on EBay for about $30-$40 cheaper than most of the distributors charge.
