TR6 TR6 with Miata seat recover

For those who have a TR6 and have installed the Miata seats... Without having a set of custom seat covers made... where did you find the set of seat covers? And...how happy are you with them? Building a 72 TR6 that will end up being a daily driver...in a very hot Northern California Summer heat. Thinking of a cover that breaths would be best...?
Any leads appreciated. Gil NoCal

Doesn't VB carry Miata parts? Seems to me I saw a catalog from them. A quick internet search would surely give you several suppliers.

The cheap eBay ones are, well, cheap eBay ones in my experience.

Keep an eye out for the auctions from LeatherSeats.com. A very high quality product that's the exact same as when you custom order from their site (www.LeatherSeats.com) but you can save $100-$200. It took me 3 months to win the auction at a price I wanted to pay. They usually only put black leather for early Miata's but I think there's a two-tone grey set up there now.

Another option is https://mrmikes.com/miatahome.htm who does both leather and leather-ette.

If you've got the bucks https://www.katzkin.com/ has some real high quality stuff.

If you do get a set I've documented the complete covering process on my site.

I've been trying to catch leatherseats.com auction for a set in black myself. I've actually just bid on another leather set but these ones from china that are different than the real cheap ones but still much less expensive, will see if i win them for cheap or not.

I bought my leather seat covers from Katskins, they fit really well and somewhere on the net is the article on how to rplace the covers, very detailed pretty easy too

Hi Justin........I went through the exact same thing....the bidding either went too high for my budget or I got outbid at the last second. It took about 3 months but I finally got them at the price I wanted. Seeing as I had my old seats in the car I wasn't in a big hurry.

Hi didnt realize Brosky did it but there is another article too on the net not that Brodsky isnt well done but sometimes 2 are better than one

Paul went a totally different route and had an upholsterer custom make his Miata covers complete with the insert pleating to get a stock look. He did a great job on matching the chestnut color and on making the covers. Very very nice. I have no idea how it compares price-wise to buying covers and installing them yourself.

Mine cost me $850 to have them made. After all of the work that he had to do to make them look like they did, I don't know what the price would be today. Less pleats, less work and probably a lot cheaper price.

HAH! I finally won the leatherseats.com auction =) For less than I was willing to pay too. Patience pays off. I have used leatherseats.com previously to do a set of miata seats in tan leather (which I have since sold, since my interior will now be black) and know I'm getting a quality product. I'm kind of glad I didnt win the other auction I was bidding on, because the next day leatherseats.com put up their no reserve auction for the month !

Now if I could only find a set in the color of my TR8 tan, I'd be really happy. I'll be looking for those over the summer.

Hi Paul,

Are you looking to put Miata seats in your TR8?

Darrell, I have a pair in my storage that i plan on using as soon as I get the interior finished.
Very nice shape black ones that I won't be using the cloth on

Hi Don,

I look forward to seeing pictures. I'll need to do something with the seats in my new 8, so I'll be interested in how they go in.

Actually the factory seats redone are supposedly comfortable. Ask Mickey.
Mine are not to good

Well repaired/overhauled factory seats are comfortable and supportive. Miata seats should fit OK but don't assume anything as these seats are really narrow. I bought a set of Saab 9-2 seats to go in and they are a touch too wide, and these are pretty narrow seats for a modern car.

Darrell,

I had the seats re-padded this fall. The upholstery that Mickey put in was new, but there were some collapsing issues with the padding, so they are quite comfortable as they are.

BUT......like the TR6 stock seats, I am not wild about no real headrest protection.

So yes, I am going looking for something taller, but with the TR8 I have a lot more space options in the width than with the TR6. That will probably be a late summer project.

Ok, thanks.

I'm going to need to do something with the seats in my new car. Based on your TR6, I know whatever you do will be first-rate, so I'm looking to leverage!
