Does the switch suppose to have a spring in it to automatically turn off?(71)
 
Hi Don. Got home too late the other night to call you back. I still don't have the halogens, but at least I know what I am looking for now. I have a number of possibilities. As far as the washer switch goes, on mine it does not automatically return. It sure seems like it would make sense to do so.

Yes, the switch should return to off when pressure is removed from it.
 
OK, Ray how about a WIKI PEDIA on taking it apart. I know people have done it.Have read be careful of spring!

Ok, I got it apart. Now here is the inside. What I want to know is what is suppose to make it spring back?

On my 73 TR6, the wiper and washer switch is a single unit with a knob. Turn the knob for the wiper, push in for the washer. Sorry, no help on this one.
 
Great work DNK. I believe the "return" spring fits on the plastic stud I see at the bottom of the front rocker in your picture. It doesn't have to be too strong, maybe use half of a spring from a black government Skillcraft pen...

Jeff- All that spring does is center itself inside at the pivot. I don't see how that would cause the rocker to push back(center itself)
 
Roger that. The spring in the picture does that. The spring you're missing goes over the plastic post I can see at the bottom end (in the picture) of the movable piece. You can probably fashion a suitable spring from a cheap retractable pen.

I'm working from memory of my long-departed '72...

Jeff I thought of that but that post is on the bottom of the switch. If you push the top down the spring will keep it there???
I'll give it a shot.
 
Hmmm - maybe the post is there to keep the switch parallel while a 'return' spring pushes out at the other end. Is there something at the other end that a spring could fit in? Maybe someone with a spare switch could look at the top end to see if there is such a spring.

Hey Don, that new dash looks great! Here I thought my washer switch was working fine all this time, although I thought it was odd that the switch did not return, I had nothing to compare it to. Can you post pictures once you are through figuring out the return portion and what you did? Until I get a spare, I am relucant to take anything apart.
