So when you are setting up the trunnion, do you screw it out a half a turn or something?

It seems like you don’t want it set up so that there is any chance of binding on the stop when you turn the wheel, but you also want the rubber skirt to overlap the trunnion body.

I just recently asked this in some other places, regarding my TR4A (which should be the same). What I found out is that it should go in as far as possible, while still being able to turn lock-to-lock. That does mean removing the caliper mounting plate, which will stop you from being able to turn in on as far as it should. That is my issue, it was reassembled with the bracket in place, so it needs to go on further. To be fair, I don't recall having to remove the bracket when I removed them, but that was a long time ago and maybe I did.

I'll keep looking, and hopefully someone will come up with a set of very clear instuructions. Luckily my front suspension is not "buttoned up", so I can make some adjustments without to much problem.

It seemed like there was only one way to assemble the upright and brake shield, but the trunion seems like it can go on any number of screw turns.

I ma hoping they cut the threads such that any amount of turn of the steering rack would not result in the trunnion threads binding (bottoming out) on the bottom of the upright.

When I redid mine a few years ago the common wisdom was to thread them all the way on the vertical link and then back them off a couple of turns so that the lock-to-lock is facilitated by the little stop on the inner side of the link.

Yes the place to start is half the turns so in the middle of the travel. Remember it is an unequal A arm system so where the turns will also set camber
CAMBER FRONT 0 deg to +- 1/2 deg
CASTER 2 3/4 +- 1/2 deg
This can only be checked with car on the ground a 2 foot level can set it close. one turn in or out will change setting. If you have not removed the shims at the A arms it should go back to your settings
