TR6 TR6 trailer hitch

I have been working on a way to mount a trailer hitch on our TR6 for a few years and this is what I came up with. I still need to drill the fastener holes and have it powder-coated. I did get a new chrome ball for it. I also need to cut off the tops of the rubber bumper brackets.

I wanted something that was quick and easy to install and remove. With this it is only 4 bolts to install and remove the hitch.

So Tom, were you able to use those old brackets that I set you?

Yes we did Tom, but you know my memory needed a "prime" to recall that conversation.

Time to paint the trailer BRG!

Well, the hitch is mounted and the trailer has been on the car. Very happy with the result so far. I have re-packed the wheel bearings on the trailer and had new wheels and tires installed. I also tested some Fusion paint and found it a reasonable match to the car so we are removing the old paint.

Will need a new Packer sticker for the trailer too!

For those of us without the rubber bumper overriders, we're out of luck. So far my searches have not turned up any kits or CAD plans for making a trailer hitch for the earlier TR6 with the purely aesthetic but structurally worthless bumpers. Anyone out there know anything on this topic, don't hesitate to drop me a line at danborn at google's own gmail service. Much thanks in advance.

Tom, Looks professional and I like the TRIUMPH on the lower section of the middle bumper. Nice effect.

I have a rear competition ADDCO anti sway bar installed and along with the trailer hitch it stiffens the rear end too much where it is too dangerous to drive without the hitch in use. I removed and plan to only install when on a trip.

Looks great. I'm not being critical, but I probably would have made the plate that the ball mounts to extend the full length of the braces. That way you could have ran a weld along the entire lower edge and it would just look more solid. Might not be any stronger, just would look smoother.

I used an extruded piece for the main beam and it is very strong. It is a boxed part with a heavy braced side in the back. The parts that are used for the ball mount are also pretty heavy. It is all aluminum and the welds were made by an expert welder. The bumper brackets have since had the top part for the rubber bumpers have been cut off and all the parts are now out for powder coating. Even though the towing capacity for the car is 2,000 lbs I doubt it will ever be used for the trailer capacity of 900 lbs or even half that.
