TR6 TR6 Supercharger anyone??

*drool*.....must resist.

Looks like it is marketed for carb models? These low pressure superchargers get the hp up around the standard injection models......I think an injection system would be cheaper,no?
Regards
Craig

This looks like the classic way to get some HP out of the original TR6 motor. The FI with a supercharger would be better but in the classic sense, the supercharger with the carburetor would be the way to go. Now, if they would make a kit that could be installed with out interfering with the A/C, I would be tempted to get it.

Isnt this the same kit Mitch Seff has on his?

2" carb suck through design. Simple and easy install, but technically not the most efficient method out there. (Not that that's a slur, just an observation).

This is the cheapest way to get a bunch more power out of a TR6 there is. Full stop.

Is it the best? No, but it's not the worst either.

Forget about triple carbs unless you did a whole bunch of other work to the engine, and if you did this will still likely outdo it for a street motor.

'Just' adding FI is going to cost you more than this, even going the (cheap) megasquirt route. By the time you bought all the sensors and plumbed them in, all the wiring you need, plus the time and effort to make a manifold (or worse, $ to have it made) and all the stupid ancilliary stuff, this starts to look like a good deal.

I know of what I speak, having just spent close on $1500 on parts to install the megasquirt - ECU was $400, the rest is on wire, crimps, tools, sensors and all. That doesn't count the cost of the manifold, throttle body, fuel injectors, fuel pump, regulator, and plumbing which I had already. Also this doesn't require a laptop to tune...

FI stuff is not cheap when you total it up. Yes you can get a bunch of it from the breakers yard, and save a couple of hundred $ but then thats not a fair comparison to something like this.

So why the diatribe? Just to say that if you want some more power, your engine is in good condition and you have some basic wrenching skills then this is the simplest way to get more oomph. You will likely have to add a fuel pump, but apart from that its a straight wrenching job.

And no I'm not buying it - if someone wants to swap it for an uninstalled megasquirt setup though PM me! I could fit this and save myself a whole heap of work...

Too add to Alan's post in regard to injection (Alan is referring to an EFI conversion that he is doing). If Craig (TR674) is referring to the original Petrol Injection then, no, its still not less expensive to convert to PI instead of supercharging. Especially with this kit. A big maybe with the kit straight from Moss. To bring a US spec car to PI configuration and power levels would require an engine rebuild (at least a mild rebuild) as well as the PI equipment and set up of said equipment. The PI cars had higher compression and a different camshaft. The lower compression of US spec cars make them respond very favorably to forced induction.

I think Lee Jansen built his Turbo/EFI TR6 for less than $2,000. However he did all of his own fabrication which I am sure saved him a quite a few dollars.

Cool looking setup, but so much for any room left. Wow, that's crowded.

That big tube in front of the Brake Master is an Accusump oil pressurizing system. Not required for the turbo set up. He also has a water injection set up as part of his system.

$2125.00 for the ebay supercharger kit, seems fair. Wish I had the coin to splurge, but 2 kids in college... yada yada

That looks like a whole lot of cool stuff for not
very much $$ at all. The Crypt Car could get to
it's breakdown location even faster!

Alan, yeah, the Crypt Car is back and also dead
once again with parts all over the place. I got
another 5 miles or so this go around. Did not quite
reach the 100 miles driven in a year goal.
Perhaps 2007 will be a better year?

Its better than fair, the seller is losing out.

fyi:
istr that the kit when I looked last year was about $1800
the M62 s/c rebuilt goes for about $450-500 on ebay.
again istr that the rebuilt carb was about $350.

basically someone got a free supercharger.
not a bad deal...

What's the story here, it's sure to be a good one, and I know that everyone here wants to know. Details!!!
