TR6 Startup up-date

Well I started the engine again after correcting fuel and water leaks...nothing major. I gave it the 20-25 minutes at 2000-2500 rpm as recommended by some. Thanks. I had to have full choke on the carbs to maintain the engine on. After warming up I would release the chokes and the engine would stall. I also have an oil leak at the front. It seams to be by the timing cover at the bottom. How do I know if its the gasket or the seal?

Sounds like you also have some vacuum leaks to correct.

If it's just the gasket leaking, then the part of the cover between the seal & gasket surface won't be wet. If it's the seal, there will be oil running down.

If it looks like the gasket, it might also be between the front plate & the engine block or sealing block at the bottom. Again, you'll have to look closely to see where the oil is actually coming from. One trick that is sometimes helpful is to clean the area (with the engine off) then 'paint' it with that foot powder that quickly dries to a white powder. The white powder makes the oil much easier to see against the metal.
