TR6 TR6 - Starter Problem

Took the Grandaughter out for her first
ride in the 6.Drove around some back roads and
made a stop.Turned the key,dash lights work,but
that's it.It will push start.
What should I do?

Is the starter clicking when you turn the key to start?

My astro did that a couple of times . Eventually had to change the battery.

Lets start at the switch, push in the back of the switch to make sure the wires are connected. Next get a long wire with a alligator clip on both ends, run one from the positive lead to the red and white wire connection on the solenoid on the starter. (Do the clip on the starter first, that way you can keep your hands out of harms way.) If it turns over you have a switch problem. get that out of the way and we can go to the next thing.

I don't know what year 6 you have, but I'm pretty sure if memory serves me right that the first year for a starter relay was the '74 model.

Tried it tonight - it works.I also found out that the
alternator adjustment nut/bolt was loose.I hope I didn't
waste your time here.
I'll find out tomorrow,when I replace the bolt/nut.

OK .... I can't get the alternator to stop moving
on the bracket.It was - bolt/large flat washer/bracket/-
alternator/large flat washer/nut.the bolt screws into the
threaded hole on the alternator.
I bought a new bolt & nylock nut,tried it different
ways,but it still moves.Any more ideas?

Does the bolt have an unthreaded shank? How long?

To amplify a bit, I would do a test assembly with just the bolt & two washers (push the bracket out of the way). If it won't easily turn in until the washers are held firmly, either the threads are bungled, or the bolt has a shank that is too long.
