TR6 TR6 scuttle vent style

I have a 1972 TR6. The TRF and Victoria British catalogs state that the scuttle vent for 1972 has a metal cover with a lever in the car under the dash to open and close it. Mine has a plastic grill on the outside and no controls other than the heat distribution control. Does anyone know which is correct? Or was there a mid-year style change.

Any comments are welcome as I am trying to make sure mine is as original as possible.

I'll take a crack at this. Check the commission number on the tag by the windshield or the driver's side door post. If you have a CC prefix series car you should have the lever/flap/scoop type - the later series (73-76) (is it CR or CF? - one is for the US and one for the home market) had the more standard grille setup. If you have a CR/CF and it's titled as a 72 I think that would be unusual- someone with more detailed knowledge of production history would have to comment on that though. Hope this smattering of info helps and I apologize in advance for any egregious factual inaccuracies...

I'm pretty sure the levered scuttle was on 69 models only, possibly early 70's. After that they were fixed plastic grills controled by the eye ball vents & interior pull in the center console.
I had a 69 and kinda like that feature, it was one more unusual feature that was cool.

Now the question - has anyone converted a plastic-grilled scuttle vent to the levered door variety. I understand that the basics are there, just gotta do some rigging. I, for one, would love to have the door on my 73 to keep the unwanted rain out of my scuttle! Anyone out there done this retro-conversion?

I have a 71 although the (manufacture date of the car was in 70) with the levered scuttle.

The scuttle vent was on TR-6's from 69 thru 72. The 73 model year and forward had the plastic grille. I've seen several people make up a fine mesh screen to put under the plastic piece to keep leaves and such out. I think the entire front cowl assembly forward of the windscreen is different on the earlier scuttle vent cars. It would be a major project to try and retrofit one.

As always, the broad multi year statements are not entirely true. My '72 TR6 (March of '72) has alway had the plastic grill and not the flap. As long as your scuttle drains are in good shape and not blocked, water coming in this area won't harm anything.
