TR6 TR6 resister wire to coil

On my 74 TR6, the brown resister wire that feeds the coil (in parallel with the white/start wire) is looking frayed and about to break. It appears to be part of the main wiring harness. Is there any problem with cutting back to solid wire and replacing it with a resister and length of wire? The book says it's 1.3 to 1.5 ohms. What wattage would be appropriate?
 
Your resistor wire is frayed ? On my 74 the resistor wire was a solid core all the way to the coil.
Do you have a splice with a patch of multi-strand wire from the soild to the coil ?
 
Perhaps 'frayed' isn't the best descriptor, but the insulation looks bad. It is solid where I can see it, but I assumed only the "resistor" portion was solid and somewhere along the way, I'd find it connected to a stranded wire.

I believe the resistor wire runs all through the harness, so you can't really cut back to before the resistor without cutting the whole harness open.

However, there is nothing wrong with running a new wire from the white circuit (either near the switch or at the fuse block) and using a discrete ballast resistor. My suggestion would be to buy a purpose-made ballast resistor, which should be available at your FLAPS, or P/N 134716A from TRF et al.
