TR6 TR6 rear light R&R

So, 30 plus years ago I removed the rear lights and replaced the gaskets after a paint job. Turns out they are now leaking and I end up with a bunch of water in the bottom of the trunk. So after refinishing my rusty tools, I need to replace the gaskets. (As an aside, I also tightened all of the body bolts from the door on back and the gas cap gasket/grommets). My question is, did the factory use a gasket sealer (like 3M trim adhesive) or was it just stuck on? And, regardless of that, do people seal the gaskets to the body? And if so, what do you use? Thanks.
