Would like to know if anyone has had their shocks rebuilt
to stock or heavy duty upgrade and how it has affected the
ride and handling of the car? I have the conversion kit at present, with the kybs, Goodparts lowering spings and urethane bushings, which makes for a firm ride. My main concern is the stress the conversion is having on the frame.

Before I upgraded to the tube shocks, I did quite a bit of research on the subject too. From what I understand many, if not all of the cars that had the mounts fail after the conversion had issues (rust) to begin with. Also, I've also heard that your bump stops should be in good shape. Additionally, in some cases the bump stops should be longer (I don't know when this should be however).

All in all, it's not like your mounting the shocks in a different location from stock. If they break with the tube shocks, you're probably not far from a failure regardless of what shocks you use. Just my .02.
 
I am not concerned with the rear suspension stress. The springs are considerably softer than the front. I felt it was too soft until adding KYB's. I've been running a lighter shock in the front.
I check the front end regularly for stress fractures and the rear annually .
 
I sent in a pair to Apple for the HD rebuild and I think that they did a great job. My car handles much better with them on than before.
