TR6 TR6 radiator shrouds

Hi
When I did the repair to replace the crank damper I had to yank what was left of the front radiator shroud out. I had replaced it earlier with new fiber one (originality). Wrong thing to do in Seattle for a daily driver.
I see that there are both ABS plastic and aluminum sheet metal available.
The ABS plastic fits the pocket book better.
Any feedback on the ABS plastic, I would think it would hold up a lot better than the fiber, but maybe they crack or something.

Thought I would ask.

Thanks

The ABS ones from VB are real good. There's one on the 74 that I recently sold.
4 years in my possession and heaven knows how long for the PO.

LOL

Agreed! Anything BUT fiber will work well, even in the wet.

I also replaced mine with the powder coated one from Goodparts. Excellent fit and very good quality.

I went with the Polished SS from Goodparts.

The fiber ones actually do a lot better, if you put several coats of rattle-can paint on them.

I did the same thing as Randall did..... I sprayed clearcoat on both sides before I installed the fiber one. It's too early to tell how it will hold up, but I know it can only help.

Mark says he doesn't want to spend the money on the SS ones. I think Ken answered your question Mark. I have always wondered about the VB ones myself. But not a fan of the company. Elliot and Randall also had good ideas.

Thanks everyone
Well I rethought and I am going with the Goodparts one in powdercoat.
The price was not that much more when I re-compared and the replies stating the fit was good helped close the case.

Also in retrospect, I think a good thing to have done was painted it and the edges with POR-15 in black.

This is a good thing to do to on the inside of the door panels.

Hondo
I wonder if it might not be inclined to crack on such a surface. Not sure. I think the thing that works against all coatings is the surface has a finish and may not soak up much. I would think also that the edges need special attention to insure they have enough coating to soak it up and seal up, so the don't adsorb moisture and delaminate.
I also think the weather you are driving in will make a huge difference, a couple of showers you get caught in during a season, compared to 15 days or better a month, 80 miles a day where there is always a rooster tail from the cars around you. Ok maybe 10 days a month, OK only October to July.
