This topic seems to pop up regularly. Have a search for previous posts on the subject.
I have a PI model (as standard).

hello Randy,

I also have a P.I. but not a TR, mine is a Triumph sedan.

If you are interested in working on the system, I suggest this book:- LUCAS SERVICE TRAINING CENTRE TRAINING MANUAL

For the PI system. This useful reprinted booklet contains a section on the description and function of the PI system, together with detailed illustrated workshop instructions on testing and setting-up..
Still only ÂŁ5.00 plus 70p postage and packing (UK). For Overseas postage please enquire.

This is sold by https://www.t2000register.org.uk/. (Look at their bookshop)

The P.I. set up is not the disaster that people say it is, this was due to a total lack of understanding by people who worked on it.

Randy,

If you need anything shipping/sourcing from the UK during your rebuild give me a shout.

I know we've traded messages on here a couple of times but never met in town...I live in NK and import/export product to and from the UK all the time.

Only problem I recall is the fuel pump. Loud, Noisy, and loses pressure.. I'm sure the guys here can advise you on what to upgrade the pump to.

Alec
you are right the Lucas injection system works well provided you keep up the maintenance. The only hassle I have with mine is in warm weather. Above 35C the Lucas fuel pump gets very hot and will boil the fuel causing vapor lock. A bag of frozen peas is the best way to cool it down quickly.
The Bosch replacement pump seems to work well and doesn't overheat.

Craig

Doesn't this also require a distributor or oil pump change?

The lucas PI system, as mentioned above, is not the nightmare system as it has been made out to be in the past. There is lots of info on the net on how to rebuild/service most of the bits and pieces. You may want your metering unit looked at by Kinsler in the states, or Prestige Injection in the UK, everything else ( injectectors, pressure valve, pump ) can be overhauled by a competent mechanic.
As far as mods go the best thing you can do is plumb in a wide band O2 sensor and you will be able to adjust your metering unit yourself instead of it being adjusted on a flow bench.

The uk spec dizzy has alot less advance...........i would have to check my book for sure.......

The system runs via gravity. The pump is a converted wiper motor. I would place a modern high pre pump in the tank and fit a scavenge tank to keep it constant on fuel pressure.

Randy, installed my CP , Lucas system last year. Have some minor setup issues but now all good to go. Will be happy to help any way I can. To start, is yours the 150 BHP (CP) system or is it the later, CR, 125 BHP setup?
