TR6 TR6 passenger side rear rattle/clunk?

My TR6 has a rattle/clunk noise in the area of the passenger side rear. It sounds like the exhaust hitting the frame but when parked I shake the exhaust and it doesn't rattle/clunk.

Any ideas?

The easiest item to check is the shock mounting
bolts. Sometimes they back out and produce a
clunking sound over bumps.

Next in line is the dreaded passenger side front
Differential mount box.

Sounds like you are going to need to put it up on stands. Hopefully it will just be something loose...the next best thing you can hope for is the bushings need to be replaced, then it is the ujoints, then the diff mount box.

If you put it on stands and have a buddy of yours jerk the wheel, you should be able to figure it out.

It only happens when going over bumps....even small bumps. Doesn't occur when shifting or on hard power.

I will put it up on stands and check out the possibilities mentioned.

Thanks

Mabbot-

Before you put the car on stands, have someone
push the passenger's rear corner down while you
have your head near the wheel and listen for the
general direction of the clunk.

Here is a decent pictorial of the various rear
end components that might clunk.( broken diff
mount not shown)

Hope this helps you find and fix your clunk

Dale, excellent job on the documentation. You are the best, this will be invaluable for my future clunks.

Thanks,
Andrew

Yupper Paul,

I have the best looking, most parts removed and replaced,
non-functional, TR6 on blocks in the entire Caribbean.

I sure have become an expert in the field of
jack stand ,non-running TR6s.

Since I had to gut out the PDO Pedro's fuel tank to
refurbish it for the 100% replacement of the non-functional
fuel delivery system, I just had to add a Tinster touch to
the tank. Wait until you see it! Bold it is!

Photos to follow, hopefully next week.

PS: Since my TR6 is NOT a show car, and it's certainly NOT
even close to being a daily driver; I can make just about
any modification I want and who cares but my cat Noel who
enjoys sleeping on the passenger seat.
