TR6 TR6 original header question

While my head is off the car I decided to clean up the header. I've been wirebrushing it and using an abrassive pad type thing. Before the head goes back on I will probably bead blast it. My question is do I need to put something on the header so it won't get all discolored again like it was before I started cleaning? It has probably been on the car since the day it was new. Any advice? Thank

After getting all the rust off, use a high temp paint. There are several on the market of varying quality. Eastwood has one that holds up ok. I've used others that don't. The key is to start with a clean part before painting, otherwise the rust will bleed through very quickly.
Some of the paints require you to cure them within a certain amount of time. This is just a matter of starting the car and baking the paint into the metal.

Eric,
You refer to it as a "header" when I think you mean exhaust manifold, like in cast iron. I am assuming that because you said it has been on it since new. Well, have I got a deal for you. I had the cast iron stock exhaust manifold from my 73 TR6 Jet Hot coated some time back and I now longer use it. It is still kinda chrome/silver looking and will be a bit shinier if polished. Interested? I even will throw in a brand new lower gasket. Pretty much interested in freight costs. I can post a pic if you want.

I was going to go that route before I bought my headers from JetHot. If you can get a manifold from Bill, take him up on it. That coating really looks good. They did my intake and headers and they look great. This is what they can do - see attachment
