TR6 TR6 - Maiden Voyage

Well, maiden voyage after my restoration.

All went well, 100 mile round trip, interrupted by a spot of lunch, nice day out.

One thing was a worry. I was taking a long right-hand bend, not too fast, about 50mph, when a vibrating, knocking noise came from under the handbrake (emergency brake, I'm British). It was obviously the drive shaft universal joint, after pressing on the opposite side the noise stops. I fitted the gearbox and transmission tunnel with the new plastic covers. Anyone else get this??

Sounds like a loose, worn, or broken tranny mount to me. Something has to be giving in there to allow the propshaft to come in contact with the cover. Is there any lateral adjustment on the mount?

I had a similar problem, it was a loose gearbox mount. Very easy to fix, I put in new fasteners, tightened it up, problem solved.

Good luck, hope it isn't the U joints!

Thank you gentlemen.
You say it's an easy fix, can I do this from under the car? I've just installed a brand new interior and don't want to spoil any work I've already completed.
