I am in the process of rebuiling the front end. I need some opinions about a rear mounting bracket that is welded to the frame. The bracket must have torn away at some point and then was repaired. They did not do a very good job. The pivit bracket that attached to it was loose against this bracket when I was dissassembling the driver side suspension. I discovered why when I completely took it apart. The face of the bracket is anything but flat after the repair. It looks like it ripped across the face at a 45 degree angle, and then contiuned across toward the engine until it ripped off. In addition the PO welded a plate at an angle on the back so that when I put the studs through and try and tighten the pivit bracket, there is not a flat face to tighten against. Options are for me to 1) remove the added back plate, try and heat up and flatten the face of the mounting bracket or 2) remove the entire bracket and put in a new one. I have welded before, but I do not do well enough where I would trust my life with my weld job. If I did opt for a new bracket, I could tack it in place with my mig, but I would have to have someone come in to finish the job. I have no idea what that would cost. Can someone offer an opinion to what I should do? All the other brackets are in great shape. I was going to add a picture, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.
