TR6 TR6 lower mounting bracket help

I am in the process of rebuiling the front end. I need some opinions about a rear mounting bracket that is welded to the frame. The bracket must have torn away at some point and then was repaired. They did not do a very good job. The pivit bracket that attached to it was loose against this bracket when I was dissassembling the driver side suspension. I discovered why when I completely took it apart. The face of the bracket is anything but flat after the repair. It looks like it ripped across the face at a 45 degree angle, and then contiuned across toward the engine until it ripped off. In addition the PO welded a plate at an angle on the back so that when I put the studs through and try and tighten the pivit bracket, there is not a flat face to tighten against. Options are for me to 1) remove the added back plate, try and heat up and flatten the face of the mounting bracket or 2) remove the entire bracket and put in a new one. I have welded before, but I do not do well enough where I would trust my life with my weld job. If I did opt for a new bracket, I could tack it in place with my mig, but I would have to have someone come in to finish the job. I have no idea what that would cost. Can someone offer an opinion to what I should do? All the other brackets are in great shape. I was going to add a picture, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

This is what I would do. There are welding outfits that do on site welding. They will charge you by the hour from shop to work site then back to the the shop.

Also get the gusset strengthening pieces that were not on earlier frames.

Still cheaper then a new frame.

I had the whole job done at a frame shop, a long time ago now I guess. The bracket started to tear out of the frame, causing the car to pull on braking. I don't think it should cost much to have it welded up now that you've got the susp. all stripped down.

Kevin - I'm with Ray that you can sweat getting the alignment perfect and then have someone come by and finish the welding. Bet it won't cost more than $150.

If you are going frame-off then all sort of other options come up....

Thanks for the input. I am going to see if I can remove the back piece the PO put in and try and flatten the bracket. If I can't do a good job, I am going to go ahead and just put out the money for the bracket. I have a 69 TR6. There are gussets toward the rear of the car. Who would be the best source for these? I only need one since the others are in good condition. Were the original brackets put in with a mig or stick welded?

Kevin

The gussets are needed to reinforce the suspension, the six part kit is available from all the regular sources, here is a page from TRF.

There was also some strengthening needed between the front mount and the steering rack mount as shown here. (you may have to scroll a bit to see it)

Oh, the frames were originally stick welded, but MIG welding will do the job just fine.
