My 73 TR6 air horns go off when the ignition is activated, but the battery is low. If I charge the battery, they act like they are supposed to. Has anyone had a similar issue where their horns go off when you turn on your ignition and the battery is low?
Sixpack you might get an answer from the Triumph forum below. This is basically for help using he forums. I have never seen your problem on my Triumphs. Might check your grounds to engine and chassis.
Thanks Obi Wan. Been wrenching for 40+ starting out on British sportscars. I know a low battery can cause similar issues in modern vehicles, especially those with alarms, but not a TR. Plenty of other electrical hocus pocus issues but not this one. I saw this links and appreciate your sending them.
I can't think of any reason why the horn should stay on just because the battery is low. There is nothing in the circuit that would do this.
Probably you just moved something coincidentally when hooking up a charger. Take a good look at the wiring at the horn relay and in the steering column. I'll bet that the wire in the column is shorting to ground somewhere. It's also possible that the horn relay is sticking, but that's less likely.
