TR6 TR6 heater fan conversion??

I have my box out to renew and would like to convert my fan blade to the squirrel cage---I know this has been asked before and I ran a search but cant find the info. Is there a squirrel cage that works and easy to install???, or even hard to install!!!
 
Allan, as you probably are aware, Rimmer Brothers lists the squirrel cage conversion in their online catalog, and just as quickly shows it to be not available. They do at least show a picture of the unavailable little jewel. For the life of me I cannot see how a directional fan blade can be substituted by a non-directional squirrel cage. But then again, I still don't think they ever really landed on the the moon. I was fortunate enough to find a brand new, NOS Bakelite fan blade on Ebay (with the help of a forum member) and successfully install it on my new TRF fan motor. (I can write a whole page on that subject) The other option, if you cannot figure out how to build your own squirrel cage conversion, is to remove the fan from another heater. There are, however, two great mysteries in life: Where is the Ark of the Covenant and how do you remove the fan blade from a motor shaft without breaking it. (hint, it cannot be done) Why not drop Rimmer a note or better yet call them. On more than one occasion I have called the UK and gotten anwswers to Triumph questions rather niftily. (they don't know where the Ark is either, though)

I'd not simply convert to just any squirrel cage as they are quite specific to application. Not that it wouldn't push air, but may not do so very well. Having worked some years in the heavy duty truck HVAC business, I watched designers calculate exactly the pitch, diameter and speed required for a particular application. I'm not a CFD physicist, so could not tell you how to figure out which cage would work. However, some of the issues involved are low flow (passengers do not feel the air), high flow (condensate will blow out of the vents)and noise.

I'll bet you can write a whole page on the subject. Two months after having my TR6 all back together the blower motor started to squeal. I even tested it when it was out of the car and it worked fine. I DREAD pulling the heater core back out to get to the fan. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif So far I have successfully avoided needing the fan for five years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
 
The TR6 has a heater fan?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Just kidding, just not sure it should be called a fan as it don't blow all that hard. I don't need it for the heat. I would like to have a good fan for when I'm sitting in traffic. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
Mine blows and sounds like an F15 hitting afterburners, which is about what it feels like in the cockpit with the heater valve fully open.

I've turned my blower on in hot weather (heater valve closed) with the vents open and gotten a pretty good blast of air, but not nearly enough to qualify to make it cool. The noise gets to me well before the heat and besides, it drowns out the engine sounds, which I enjoy hearing.
